# Change nameservers

Choose the DNS provider that answers for your domain and avoid editing the wrong zone.

## Find the current nameservers

Select your Space, open **Admin Portal → Domains**, select the domain, and open **Nameservers**. Review the current nameserver entries before changing them.

Nameservers determine which DNS provider serves the domain. DNS records in another provider’s zone do not become authoritative merely because you edit them.

## Prepare the destination zone

Obtain the complete nameserver set from the DNS provider you want to use. Before switching, recreate the records needed for your website, email, and verification services at that provider. Compare the two zones carefully, including MX and TXT records.

If you are moving DNS management to Dashio, prepare the needed records in Dashio. **Reset to Dashio** fills in the default nameserver hostnames; review them and save the change. Do not copy a nameserver name from another customer or an example.

## Save the new nameservers

1. Enter at least two distinct, valid nameserver hostnames. Use **Add Nameserver** when the provider supplies more; the form supports up to ten entries.
2. Leave the optional IPv4 and IPv6 fields empty unless the provider explicitly requires glue addresses. Use the addresses it supplies; the autofill shortcuts are not a DNS lookup or an authoritative source.
3. Select **Save Changes** and check the success message and any provider warnings.

Wait for the registry and DNS caches to reflect the new delegation.

Return to **Overview** and read any nameserver warning. If the domain now uses external nameservers, maintain its DNS records at that external provider. If Dashio blocks zone edits, resolve the indicated nameserver mismatch first.

## Verify the switch

Check the domain’s delegation and query its authoritative nameservers. Confirm that your website and email still work. Keep the old zone available while cached delegation and record answers expire.

See [Manage DNS records](/guides/domains/manage-dns-records) for the record editor and its validation messages.
